Music is Medicine
Emory Winship | May Architecture + Interiors | 2016
The Music Is Medicine Collection is without a doubt my most star-studded project to date; For this turnkey project I created As-Builts of Emory Winship’s existing hallway, reproduced a 3D CAD digital model of the space, and used these drawings for the arrangement of over 100 pieces of priceless memorabilia donated to Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute by illustrious Atlanta entertainment lawyer, Joel A. Katz in concert with the T.J. Martell Foundation.
I was moved to see music history through Katz’ work. The collection is incredibly diverse, featuring artists including Paul McCartney, James Brown, Jimmy Buffet, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, just to name a few… Star after star after star, all aligned here, in an underground tunnel, in dedication to the arts, sciences, and the betterment of humanity.
"We believe there is a real connectivity in terms of music and medicine. We believe that music can help people's disposition and aid them through the protocols and treatments they receive at Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute in reaching a solution for their cancer. This ‘wall’ is all about life and bringing memories to patients from their past and giving them an emotional uplift as they experience their treatment,” said Katz on opening night.
The Joel A. Katz Music is Medicine Collection is located in the Tunnel Level of the Winship Cancer Institute. The exhibit is open to the public weekdays, 9 am until 5 pm. Don’t forget your earbuds.
